Sher Leetooze, Durham County Genealogy, Ontario, Canada

It’s new! It’s exciting! Everybody is doing it! GENEALOGY ! The foremost hobby in the world today!

For most people, what started as a hobby has turned into a passion - an all consuming passion to find out who we are, where we came from, who were our ancestors, what were they like, how did they live......... questions, questions, questions!

The internet has allowed everyone to search for family. I’ve found family from 1000 years ago on the internet! Hard to believe! But the internet does not always have the answers, being still in its infancy. Many records are not yet transcribed, and the only way to find the answers to our questions is by a physical search of the existing documentation. That’s where I can help.

After many years of digging in dusty archives I have collected a fair amount of knowledge about the people and places of Durham County. If you are searching for Durham people from the 19th century, I can help. Many answers are at my fingertips. If I haven’t a copy of the records I need, they are only a few minutes away.

My fees are kept at minimum charge, so that as many people as possible will be able to afford my services - services that have been provided to people from many countries (England, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Western Canada) who are searching for long lost relatives that came to our brave new world over 100 years ago - those same people I write about in my history books!

Let me help you find your Durham County ancestors.

Brief descriptions of the histories of the six townships of the former Durham County,
written and published by Sher Leetooze.

In the 19th century, Bowmanville was the largest centre in the county, followed by Port Hope, then Millbrook. These towns offered interesting stories, so I decided to write about them. But one can not write about any one place without writing about those places that surround it. 1994 was the bi-centennial for Darlington Township, so I made the history of that township my project. Bowmanville dominated its pages. In the ensuing years, I completed other township histories - one each year, and during that time, found more links than you can imagine between the business of all these places, the individual people, the politicians, and the families.

The First 200 Years, A Brief History of Darlington Township

From The Oak Plain To The Lakefront, A Brief History of Clarke Township

Built On Faith And Fortitude, A Brief History of Hope Township

Along The Gravel Road, A Brief History of Cartwright Township

The Trail Through The Bush, A Brief History of Manvers Township

Irish, Orange and Proud, A Brief History of Cavan Township
